Tutoring Services

At some time during their college careers, all college students encounter stumbling blocks to their academic success. Whether the problem is roommates, professors, poor background in specific subject areas, self-motivation, inadequate study skills and techniques, or general college blues, studies show that trained, experienced college students are most effective in helping other students overcome these difficulties.

All students are eligible for free tutoring. Our tutors are outstanding, upper-class students who have been recommended to the program by faculty members. Tutors have undergone a specialized training program and will be available by appointment according to their schedules.

Any student who wants to schedule should contact the Tutoring Center.  Students can:

  • Stop by the office located in the Main Hall, Room 147
  • Call the Tutoring Center at 304.336.8185

In addition to offering peer tutoring for academic courses, tutors also offer assistance with the following areas:

  • time management
  • note taking
  • reading comprehension
  • test preparation
  • test taking
  • memory skills
  • test anxiety

The tutoring lab is located on the East Wing of Main Hall. The lab is a quiet place to meet with tutors or for individual or small group studying. Computers with Microsoft Word and Internet access are available for use. The Center offers a comfortable environment conducive to learning that includes comfortable couches, reclining chairs, a refrigerator, microwave and coffee.
