West Liberty University seeks an academic dean to provide effective leadership in the College of Liberal Arts, which includes the Department of Humanities (degree programs in English and English Education) and the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences (degree programs in Social Sciences [Appalachian Studies, Geography, History, International Studies, Political Science, Pre-Law, Sociology] and in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work and Social Studies Education). The College also includes the disciplines of foreign languages, philosophy and religion. This is a full-time, twelve-month administrative position with reduced teaching responsibility and with participation in scholarly/professional activities.
The successful candidate must have a terminal degree in one of the programs, professions, or disciplines represented in the College of Liberal Arts. A minimum of five years of recent higher-education teaching and three years of administrative experience is required. The successful candidate must possess effective and consistent interpersonal, organizational, conflict resolution, collaborative/consultative decision-making and management skills; demonstrate noteworthy achievement in curriculum development; have knowledge of accreditation and accredited programs; have a thorough knowledge of program assessment; and be able to effectively manage the operations of the college in an informed manner.
Administrative responsibilities of the Dean include leadership for all facets of assessment, operational administration, finances and budgeting, program building, faculty development, and academic experiences of students, including student advisement. Other important responsibilities include leadership in student recruitment and retention, fund raising, and fostering effective community and public relations. The Dean serves as the College’s internal and external representative and as liaison between the faculty, department chairs and the Provost and the President. Salary is dependent upon the applicant’s credentials and experience. This position includes a comprehensive benefit package. Anticipated starting date: July 1, 2014.
