STATEMENT:

Specific requirements relating to definitions of full-time and part-time employment are contained within WV State Code and HEPC Rules.  Nevertheless, non-academic staff employment consists of the following types depending upon the work assignment and University requirements:

PROVISIONS:

I. Non-academic employees are generally designated as one of the following:

A. Full-time Regular: Minimum work of nine months within a twelve month period.  At least an FTE of .53, benefits eligible, classification program applies.  Works a minimum of 1040 hours in a twelve month period.
B. Part-time Regular:  Less than .53 FTE, i.e. less than 1040 hours in a twelve month period, not benefits eligible, classification program applies.
C. Temporary Employee: A position expected to last fewer than 9 months within a twelve month period, not benefits eligible, classification program applies. No limitation to hours of work within the temporary period.
D. Casual Employee: Any position or employment lasting for no more than 225 hours in any twelve-month period.  Not benefits eligible, classification program does not apply. Used to meet specific operating needs.
E. Student Employee: Any employee enrolled as a full-time student, not benefits eligible, and classification program does not apply. There are “work study” and “personal service” types of student employment.

II. Employment for all full and part-time employees must be in a specific approved and budgeted position as contained on an approved, current state expenditure schedule.
