Assessment

Assessment Coordinators:

All academic degree programs at West Liberty have faculty Assessment Coordinators.  These individuals serve as  assessment leaders in their academic program working with faculty on the development of a viable assessment program.

The Coordinator program began in the fall of 2009 with a back-to-basic approach that required each degree program to develop program goals and three to five student learning outcome statements.  This task included numerous workshops and many revisions before each area adopted a set of student learning outcomes (see sample outcome statements).  Coordinators and their faculty mapped the outcomes to the curriculum (see sample map).  A curriculum mapping workshop was facilitated by Dr. Susan Hatfield, HLC Academy Mentor and Assessment Coordinator at Winona State University (Powerpoint presentation).

The Coordinators are currently working on selecting course locations and implementing assessment measures to begin collecting assessment data. All coordinators are using Dr. Barbara Walvoord’s book, Assessment Clear and Simple to assist them with implementing an assessment program (Dr. Walvoord’s IUPUI Assessment Institute Handout).  Other helpful assessment resources can be found on the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA) website.
