The 2012 West Virginia MAD Festival will take place on the Campus of West Liberty University on Friday April 27 from 8:30 AM until 6:00 PM. Join us for a FREE full day celebration of media arts – video, electronic music, animation, illustration, mixed media, and digital imaging.
We are in the process of finalizing our roster of guest speakers. Look for the full schedule by February 15.

The 2012 MAD Festival Competition will be open to all West Liberty University students. This year high school students from Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia may also enter. Entries will begin to be accepted from March 15 – April 7. Details will be posted on this site on March 15. This year’s categories are:
Video – stories, documentaries, edited by the student (or group of no more than 3 students).
Digital Imaging - Original art created using digital processes. This can include collage, vector graphics, photography, and scanned objects or textures. If found works are used, the piece should be transformative of original content.
Electronic Music – Original compositions, up to 5 minutes in length. Can include original instrumentation, sampled sounds, midi sounds, or mashups of two or more pre-recorded songs, as long as such works are transformative of original content.
Animation - Original animated project. May include stop motion projects, vector animations, cartoons, interactive pieces, or games.
Illustration - Original illustration using digital and/or traditional techniques. Limited to completely original works (no collages of other artwork – those works belong in the Digital Imaging category),
Mixed Media - Original static mixed media piece. May include a range of materials, from found object assemblage, to a variety of traditional or non-traditional media.
Multimedia – Original dynamic multimedia piece. Should be composed of a variety of media, which may include video, animation, photography, sound, illustration, and type.
Web Design – Original coding and graphics required. Judged on originality, navigation, layout, content, and structure.
Photography – Traditional or digital original photography with minimal digital post-production.
Entries are free. Prizes will be awarded.
